Why We Love It

Every once in a while, we come across a fabric that's just so good we can't stop talking about it, and this bull denim is one of them! We're always searching for beautiful, high-quality basics that you'll want to sew with again and again, and this one checks all the boxes. It's sturdy, durable, incredibly soft, and has the most wonderful smooth, almost luxurious feel. We really can't say enough good things about it!

What makes this denim so special is that it has all the strength and structure you'd expect from a hardworking cotton denim, but without that stiff, rigid feel. It feels amazing right off the bolt and only gets better with washing and wear. It's one of those fabrics you really have to experience to appreciate. Trust us on this one, it's that good!

Fabric Details

This substantial 9.5 oz bull denim is made from 100% cotton with a dense, sturdy weave that gives it excellent durability and structure. Unlike traditional indigo denim, bull denim typically has a more uniform appearance, making it a wonderful choice for clean, modern silhouettes. Despite its weight, this fabric has a surprisingly soft, smooth hand and a comfortable feel.

What It's Like to Sew

This bull denim is such a pleasure to work with! Its stable, tightly woven construction makes it easy to cut, handle, and stitch, while the smooth surface presses beautifully. It's a great fabric for sewists looking to explore heavier-weight materials without the frustration of working with something overly stiff. We recommend using a denim needle in size 90/14 or 100/16 and a slightly longer stitch length, especially when sewing through multiple layers.

What to Sew

This is one of those versatile, hardworking fabrics that can be used for so many different projects. Its substantial weight makes it especially wonderful for structured garments, while its softness keeps finished pieces comfortable and wearable. We love it for timeless wardrobe staples and practical everyday pieces that you'll enjoy wearing for years to come.

Great for:

  • Workwear-inspired jackets and chore coats
  • Structured pants and everyday trousers
  • Overalls and utility jumpsuits
  • A-line skirts and structured dresses
  • Durable shorts and casual separates
  • Tote bags, aprons, and everyday accessories

Color Notes

Machine wash cold with like colors and tumble dry low or hang to dry. We recommend prewashing before cutting, as natural cotton fabrics may shrink. The fabric will continue to soften and develop a lovely, lived-in feel with washing and wear.

We do our best to photograph our fabrics as accurately as possible, but colors may vary slightly depending on your screen settings. We always recommend ordering a swatch if you're unsure about a color.
